I thought about it too, then I remembered that "LOVE" it's a buzzword that has very little meaning nowadays - overused and abused lost it's value long time ago. He probably "loves" his fish and chips too...
Back in the old days, before Instagram and Facebook, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, a gent would inquire about a lady's status through family members. Your mom knows her parents. This is a no-brainer, OP.
And of course, her mom will tell her you were inquiring, so, she'll probably be flattered and intrigued (unless she has a bf, but even so, she'd probably be flattered). That is how sweet anticipation is built. After that, she might be looking forward to some form of contact from you. She'll be wondering about you, remembering the pleasant time she had with you. She might dream.
But...whatever. Take the fun, romance, and imaginary (on your part) embarrassment out of it, and just contact her on IG. Do it your way. Technology is so much more efficient and direct, right?
