Am I wrong to have done this? (A REALLY LONG STORY SHORT)
Girlfriend of 9 months asks to borrow $5K. She pays it back a month later as promised. 2 weeks pass and she asks to borrow $12K. No cash, so I let her charge it on my credit card with her business credit processing machine. Same deal...promises to pay me back in 1 month. After a month, the relationship starts to go cold and she wants to break-up. Tells me she doesn’t have the $12K to pay back as promised....but will pay me back as soon as she can. WTF????? I told her she left me no choice but to dispute the charges. She thinks I bluffing or something and said go ahead. Well, I disputed the charges. There is no way in hell I was going to carry $12K on a credit card for an EX-Girlfriend and trust she will pay it back.
Well a week later, the **** hits the fan. One morning, I get a bunch of text messages lighting ip my phone. It was from her ripping me. The credit card company took the $12K back from her bank account. Her balance is now negative $10K. A bunch of checks bounce and she’s got no money. She has bad credit and has no credit cards. Even though I warned her and she broke her promise to pay the card, I felt like ****. (It’s a long distance (1500 miles) relationship but I had been down visiting and staying with her for weeks at a time each month.). I was at home, so I got on Amazon and sent her a $200 Visa card next day so she would atleast have gas money and food until she could figures out what to do. So all her texts were that I’m evil, I destroyed her life, and she has never hated anyone as much as she hates me.
She left me no choice by not paying back my credit card like she promised. There was low-no probability she was going to pay the money back as a long-distance EX-Girlfriend. I admit, when things were good, they we good. I think she really did love me, but pulled this stunt out of financial desperation. I feel bad for her situation, but I am in no financial position to finance her. There was no nice way keep from getting stuck with her $12K Bill. She refuses to accept one bit of responsibility.

She was suppose to use the $12K to pay off another loan and then turn around and borrow more money. She as then suppose to pay the $12K back and use the additional money she was able to borrow to pay other debts. With how she reacted when I asked her about paying back the money and the fact that she only had $2K in her account at the time they yanked the $12K, I honestly don’t know what she did with all the money.
I have suspicions she’s got a gambling problem. She also has IRS issues but from her text about bounced checks...there were 2 checks to the IRS for $1K each.
Most of my friends’ jaws drop when I tell them she asked to borrow $12K and I actually let her.
What she did was shady as hell, yes, but I think what you did was illegal. You disputed charges on a charge that you actually did authorize. That's chargeback fraud.

Ooooh good point! The cc company (bank) may just reverse the charge right back again, after they finish investigating the reverse and determine he did authorize the charge.
She just use you like a rich and kind daddy. She'll immediately forget you when you refuses to lend money for her.
