Anybody ever send an ex a Christmas present? Ever since my divorce Christmas has not meant much to me. Someone recently told me to do something that made me feel good this Christmas to make it special. I thought long and hard and there is not much that I can come up with, other than as crazy as it sounds, Buying my ex-wife a nice winter coat and sending it to her anonymously.
She hasn't exactly been doing all that great since the divorce financially and the thing that made me think about it was the last time I saw her with a winter coat on it looked like total crap. I know she could use one and it isn't something she would ever buy herself. Would I be totally out of my mind for doing this? Thoughts?
I work with guys who have actually bought their exes cars so they have decent Transportation so I am thinking a coat is not that ridiculous.
It is your relationship and only you can answer that question. Buying the person something they need (a winter coat) versus a "romantic" gift (flowers, wine, jewelry) would be more appropriate, IMO.
Nothing wrong with buying a winter coat for her as long as the gift is a sincere concern about her needing a coat and not hopes that she will come back to you. I agree that a romantic gift would be inappropriate. It also depends on the relationship that you two have. Are you cordial, nasty to each other, etc. Only you know her well enough to know how she would accept a gift from you.
In my instance nope. Never. Maybe a Christmas card. No, wouldn’t do that either.
If it is amicable a new coat would be a decent thing to offer. Also, give as a gift make it explicit that you want or expect nothing in return. In the true spirit of giving. It is a decent thing to do in this instance.
Sure, send a coat anonymously to a deserving person. But not your ex, who abused and abandoned you for another man.
