It is what it is.

You live in New York, not flyover country. You are surrounded by death...and you want to talk about dating?

Some state that the social distancing is just delaying the inevitable.

I have close friends telling me that the shutting down of businesses are a severe overreaction and that their friends and loved ones have lost jobs due to this "overreaction".

Gosh forbid I tell them it's all for their own good and the good of their health.

There was an initial panic, stores were selling out of stuff, streets were deserted, but it almost seems like people panicked, and now they are relaxing. Less sense of panic.

That said its possible the virus just hasnt gotten bad here yet. NYC is the epicenter but naturally its because it has the densest population, people living close together, lots of International travelers coming in.

Rural areas like mine are probably just going to see a delayed surge in cases. Idk Im not a public health expert so I might be wrong, but just what I can guess it seems like its going to eventually spread, as logistics allow.

But it seems since people havent seen the community hit yet they are relaxing. I see randos on the street shouting to other randos "Hey sexy mama! Come over here!" Lots of people seem really lazy about social distancing. Some guy ranting on about 5g towers was getting too close to me the other day, saying " Dont worry, Im not contagious."

For the record I take it seriously. I am social distancing. Only going out for essential errands.

But I think a lot of people are going to get "bored" of this social distancing and go on with life as normal. Its a lot to ask of people to self quarantine for the unforseeable future. People will behave at first but we already see protests, immature people, horny people. I mean if people risk their lives having sex and doing drugs, those same people arent going to quarantine. They are going to rationalize breaking quarantine because "yolo."

Its unfortunate but its an aspect of human nature.

As for myself I am going to social distance for as long as they ask us to.
I actually have a close friend that's talked to me about the 5G situation. She's a holistic/all natural healer of sorts as a side gig. Basically "negative energies" is a killer, etc etc.

Anyways, she goes on to tell me about this, and I'm like lookin' at her like she has 2 kids. Something about how 5G networks are immune system killers and thusly, how we are getting infected with covid.

Being that I've known her for a while, and she's a computer programmer as her real job...I figured she was the most logical person I know. But now I'm putting her in the category of a conspiracy theorist. You know, Roswell and stuff.

I have to bite my tongue to try not to get into an argument about it all

Quoted for truth. Before Covid in my hometown, violence was causing death around us. Live today because you aren’t getting out of life alive anyway.

I'm actually surprised most people under 50 would stop dating. Very few people under 50 have died. Most have mild to moderate symtoms and many none at all. When I was young getting a cold or flu or mono was a risk that came with dating, but worth it.

I think dating will be the same as many close friendships. With good communication and trust, like-minded people can be together if they take their time. If you agree to date, you both have to agree to a mutual quarantine period before physical contact. Heh, that might be convenient to weed out weirdos.

Its not going to be any different other than some people will be suffering economically more than usual. We have superbly short memories as a species, especially to negative events.

Yes there are a lot of deaths, I wouldn’t go as far as to say we’re surrounded by death, that’s an exaggeration. Proportionally New York is definitely not surrounded by death.

After vaccinattions are available, will it be like having the STD conversation with someone new: "have you been vaccinated? Can I see your document?"

Lots of questions, here, people.
I guess I mean prior to the vaccine coming out. Once the vaccine is out and readily available and we eventually have herd immunity, I believe things will go back to the way they were more or less.

The vaccine may not come out for another 18 months or so, are we to not date until that time. I'm in the low risk category, and I can't see people my age not dating for another 18 months, it's not realistic.
