I don't think this guy had a vasectomy, I mean honestly it's not uncommon that a guy wouldn't use protection with his girlfriend. I'm thinking maybe he knew his swimmers don't work so well so he wasn't that concerned? It's harder for men to impregnate women the older they get, it's a known fact that men over 40 have a significantly decreased sperm count, I'm guessing this guy was thinking that given the OP's age and his age her chances of getting pregnant are slim to begin with. Again, not saying impossible, but slim (at least as far as the natural way) and most men would take that risk. However given he's sure he does not want kids now, he would probably be unwilling to take that risk at this point.

OP, if this guy starts missing you again and convinces himself he's ok with having kids again in a few months time please don't fall for it!

Yes, first time around that we were together I remember him saying a few times that given our age it probably wouldn’t be that easy for me to get pregnant and that we’d probably have to try for about a year.
