I don't keep contact with ex-girlfriends, so I dunno. If I was that guy I wouldn't try to contact the ex's family or the partner she was with before she died.
So a male friend of mine was telling me this weekend that his ex's pet passed away this past Saturday. She posted about it on social media, and he commented with his condolences. He was asking me if he should shoot her a text as well since he knew the pet, but I told him I didn't think that was necessary. Another mutual friends of ours told him he should text her because commenting on social media is very impersonal, especially since he knew the pet. So was just wondering what you guys would do in this situation? I personally think the comment on social media was enough especially since they're not together anymore (they've been broken up a few months), also the pet was old and sick for a while now so it's not like it was a shock.
A nice message on social media is all he needs to do. Anything else looks like he's trying to score points.
If they're still on good terms, then I'm sure she would appreciate the gesture.
If not, leave her alone.
I think the relationship ended on ok terms, they don't really speak to each other though. I think he's liked a few of her posts on social media since they broke up (I'm friends with both of them on social media, so I had seen it in my newsfeed), but that's basically it.
The etiquette for dealing with anything having to do with an ex is to simply ignore them.
