Boo, hiss
I HATE these stereotypes and they are absolutely crippling that "only thin pretty people get thin pretty people". That is such a skewed superficial mindset right there and is all about narrow arrogant vain thinking of the person saying it or holding that view. Please give men more credit than this. Please give women more credit than this. Just because you yourself may hold that view doesn't mean it is a widely held or a healthy view or has anything to do with satisfying relationship.
Boo hiss?? What eloquent words
He said in his first post, stereotypically attractive women. Those were his words, and stereotypically attractive women are thin and not overweight. Look at tv, media, magazines, etc, those are often thin people. Don't blame me, blame society and US culture.
"Skewed superficial mindset all about the narrow arrogant vain thinking of the person saying it"? Wow, such insulting words towards me. I have learned on this board that many people are quite sensitive about their weight and the defensive ones get easily offended. Instead of insulting others, work on yourself and why you are so hypersensitive towards issues that obviously hit a sore spot. You may be one of those pretty people that are not thin, but the OP said stereotypical.
Whats with all of the emphasis on going to a gym? Gyms to me are a waste of money....I think people go to a gym to just because its trendy and they like to be seen. Otherwise, there are plenty of ways to exercise and be healthy without dropping money on gym memberships. I can't understand why people pay good money to go and walk on a treadmill?? Why not just go walk around your neighborhood or on a walking trail?
I get enough exercise by going on daily walks around town on my breaks at work and from running and playing with my kids outside. Gyms are too cheesy and cliche and full of self-absorbed people for me.
People go to gyms because its trendy and they like to be seen?
Is there an award for the most backwards, stereotypical comment? This would definitely take it. In the winter when its -10 degrees, in the summer when its 100 degrees, when its pouring out or snowing out, its not a wasted of money then. And FYI- the American Heart Assoc, the American Cancer Society, doctors, nutritionists, etc everywhere have been endorsing gyms for many years, and not just for those cheesy, cliche self absorbed-people.
Remember, stereotypes are most used by those who lack the experience to know any better
ok i didnt read through the thread and i see it took kind of a spin--lol
but back to the point about king of queens.
sure carrie is pretty, but she has a bad attitude. sure doug is fat, but he is funny! and cute. therefore she has been knocked down a few notches and he has been brought up a few--and now its an even playing field.

Okay, I've been dying to know this... is there a chance that the situation that existed in the TV series the King of Queens is real? Is there an attractive, intelligent woman who would actually go out with a guy regardless of size if they thought he was nice?
This isn't a slight on anyone, and I know the question can be reversed, but I've never seen it in real life. I've seen attractive guys (in a manly sort of way, of course!! *cough cough*) with larger women, but not the other way around.
What do you think?
have you not seen the guy that plays on that show's real wife?.....
wow! i had never even realized he was married--go "doug"--lol
