The bigger question is that most prostitutes had ENORMOUS issues that led them to that line of work including household abuse, drugs etc. It's really not the prostitution per se but just how messed up the person might be. At the least, it's a massive warning signal...like meeting someone who has no ties to any of their family bears some caution.
If they'd gotten past their issues and were doing well and it was in the past then it could be understood.

I'm going with Jimbo on this one. Healthy people are the pimps or people that run the escort business... they make the money for sex without having to involve themselves with the dangerous part of it (meeting strangers, possibly exposing themselves to STDs or worse, etc).

No - they just have to deal with the legal ramifications, the payoffs, the fire-bombings of the office by envious competitors, visits by cross-swinging relatives...
I really meant in the general sense. There are very unhealthy people who are finely tuned in the physical sense but a real mess upstairs.

In my mind, there are two kinds of prostitutes: the high end prostitute and the street walker. Spitzer was involved with the first kind this past year. Hugh Grant was caught with the second kind in 1995. I think both kinds have the possibility of having mental issues, though the street walker might be in more desperate straits.
