Wull, I write checks, I know a lot of people who write checks...some companies don't take debit cards...??? and I refuse to pay my bills with my credit card number. I also know quit a few people within my company, who've had to deal with identity theft and debit card theft, because that is all they use.

I was raised to pay for everything when I purchaed it...and not run up debit cards and debt....I hate it when I owe bills, and I did for awhile, way back, 12 years ago, and never again...!!!!

"Be yourself." To me, it's as offensive as any racial slur. Of course, what they are really trying to say is be a reflection of them. Since that's the only version of "yourself" they know best.

How else would you suggest that someone give that type of advice, assuming that it's an honest assertion to do what you want in life and to trust your own feelings and instincts instead of simply doing what other people want?

"Be yourself" isn't always a cliche, or (in my experience, anyway) used in the way you describe above.

That they don't give it at all. Sometimes it's better not to try and give advice, especially that particular type of advice.

Hmmm. You don't think it's valid for people to act for themselves and make decisions for their own personal reasons? And you don't believe that they should view the world from their own viewpoint and not just puppet those around them?

Wow. I'm glad I don't live in your world. Are we miscommunicating in some manner?

I never give advice lightly, but I see nothing at all wrong with the above advice, and I'm not sure I understand your point of view. Sorry.

But debit cards deduct the amount from your checking account immediately, just like a check without the paper. There's no debt involved; it's just easier than writing a check.
