I just turned 39 a couple of days ago and it got me to thinking about the big 4-0. I think that 40 is a biggie kinda of par with turning 21. So that being said, I'm trying to decide if I want to really live it up or not. Mrs Chow and I are trying to decide between doing the Amalfi coast or maybe Santorini.

Of course a bus trip to Vegas could be in the works.

So fellow C-D'ers what will it be Italy, Greece or Vegas.

The Amalfi coast in October is pretty great. Not very crowded.

Can't speak for Santorini, though I imagine it would also be nice in the fall.

If you go to Europe, make sure you buy tickets for Sept. 1 or later as that's when the prices usually drop.

I've been to two out of the three and my opinion may be biased on a few accounts. First off, Vegas is totally out without a question in my mind! I mean, it's an OK fun place, but you can go there any time especially since you live in CA and it hardly can mark a milestone...

It's a toss-up between the other two. I haven't been to the Amalfi coast or to Italy at all, but it's so gorgeous! I'd go there because I haven't been. For you it's different.

I love Greece (as being IN LOVE), but frankly I don't find Santorini to be the most exceptional island by any means. It just has good marketing. It's dry with kind of deserty vegetation. The volcano is famous if you care for it... Of course, it's as lively and fun as any other Greek island, but it's not the prettiest IMO. Of course, you'd be going from Athens, which gives you a chance to see a lot more. Don't fly or take the fast boats by any means! Take the ferry. The ferries are great! Takes about 8 or 9 hours to get down to Santorini and you get to see many other islands in the meantime. Sitting outside and enjoying the breeze and the blue waters of the Aegean is priceless! Mykonos is a very fun island. It's a gay mecca (in case it bothers you). Even Mykonos is not exactly a green island per se. Generally the Cyclades are not very green. The greener ones are in the Ionian Sea, if I'm not mistaken, as well as those in the Northern parts. However, the white-washed houses, the bougainvilleas, the harbors, the taverns, the lifestyle will steal your heart forever!

Greece is charming. Since you're Epicurean, you'll love it! But so is Italy... It's a tough choice! Do you need a bellboy/girl? by any chance? I speak a little Greek - enough to get us all in trouble.

Man I envy you. I've been to Italy couple of times,I'll pick Amalfi coast. You can't go wrong with Italy. Lago di Como, Logo di Maggiorie, is cool too. I would love to check out Greece in the near future.

We have been to France and Switzerland at it was in late September and early October and had the best time. I would choose Italy hands down. Basically, Vegas would probably be more thoughtless FUN whereas Italy would be food/culture for your brain and not to mention experiences of being in another country. I sure do envy you but wish you the best birthday ever!

I've also been to 2 out of 3 (not Greece). Italy is fantastic. If you go there, check out Venice and go on a gondola ride.
