My dog and I headed out early today. He enjoys riding in the car and hadn't been in a while and it was a perfect day in Atlanta, GA. The sky was clear, a light breeze and I had the road practically to myself. LOL--Once in a blue moon we catch a break here. Tomorrow morning around 5:30 AM the push begins and you need to be very serious about defensive driving, FWIW--to anyone planning a visit.
North of Atlanta there are several small towns which are developing quite nicely. The historic town centers have been restored--interesting shops and restaurants and all sorts of events planned for Spring and Summer. Suwanee, GA is a place that deserves recognition and has received awards for the design of green space and recreation areas. I would certainly put it at the top of a list for relocating. Buford, GA--is smaller but also has done a lot to restore the train depot and add shops and restaurants. Beautiful old homes--perhaps early 20th century--Southern houses with porches and gabled roofs.
That is one bit of history that might be of interest to visitors. Atlanta began as a transportation hub and many of the old depots are now restaurants.
Josh and I stopped at our favorite dog park on the way back. Pinkneyville dog park between Norcross and Duluth in NE Atlanta. Tails were wagging and dogs were sniffing and doing what dogs do. Now I have a tired, happily sleeping dog--Good As It Gets.
Yesterday watched my niece graduate from collage. 17 years to the day earlier her dad walked across the same platform. Had a great time with family afterwords. I was reminded again why I have the best family.
Today I slept in. I packed up some of the stuff like wedding photo's and such and put it in a box. I did share a tear for the happy memories. It was quite cathartic though.
Ate some very delicious food my dad barbecued. Yummy! The potato salad was awesome, as always. Ate tres leches (3 milk) cake. Oh man, it was good. Saw my nephews. Met a stray dog, walked with him a while. Drank grapefruit soda. But only today, I'm not one to drink soda on a regular basis. Took a walk in the park and the weather was beautiful. It was a great Mother's day.
