I hear you! smoke is the absolute worst! thankfully, MA, where I currently am, is no-smoking!!! I wish they would pass that law nationwide already!
I worked in NC for a few months, and I would actually dread going into the sportsbars there too because of the smoke, but my team wouldn't play on tv so I chose to go to the bar. It was pretty miserable. I had to go outside during all the commercials just to breath!! Never doing that again!
