You're not alone, kitty. As a matter of fact, I believe I was reading somewhere that sadness seems to overwhelm a lot of people before their birthdays. Granted, in my case circumstances contribute to it, too. In any event, past certain age birthdays are not what they used to be.
I used to live in Russia and really grew to appreciate how they approached birthdays. Basically, you were responsible for your own birthday party. This way it can be as big or as little as you want. If you chose not to throw a party for yourself, then be prepared for annoyed friends. Sometimes your friends care more about your birthday than you do. I don't know how children's birthdays worked.
...I usually get depressed a week before. I really don't like people to wish me happy birthday until a few days after. I don't even like receiving gifts or cards. Anybody feels the same (I honestly doubt it 'cause I'm weird)?
Ok....So I will only sing:
meow to you, meow to you
meow to you mr.cattttttttttttttttt
Would you prefer people say to you "Congrats you are now one step closer to dying of natural causes well if your lucky because you can drop right this second from a freak accident"
I was that way when I turned 40. I felt like hiding, sitting around feeling sorry for myself, until I went to work that day.
This woman opened my eyes to a diffrent view of life. She was 44, and looked like she was 60. She had all kinds of medical problems, and she was in physical pain. I thought... turning 40, isn`t as bad as I thought.
When I turned 30 a couple of years ago, I felt like that. But not anymore. As long as you don't feel older as you age, it shouldn't be a big deal. But I think it's normal to feel somewhat depressed on your birthday at times.
I turn 42, feel like 52 but act like 22. Go figure.
As long as you don't ACT like an old man, you should find it easy to enjoy life.
