If you know nothing about a subject, are you secure enough to admit it or do you feel the overwhelming need to try to be an expert at all cost? Will you be the "expert" to stroke your ego or are you able to learn from someone else?
If I know nothing about a subject, then I won`t bother even "going there."
No, I usually just ignore the topic honestly, and if it's in real life I won't be able to add to the conversation much so it's better not to try. I may or may not care about the topic at all, and if I know nothing about it, it's probably not important to me. If I know something about it, but not enough, then I may want to learn more.
