How do people feel about when you go out to dinner and the wait staff comes over and sings happy birthday to you at your table. Assuming it is your birthday of course.
I personally wouldn't like it and tell people I'm with not to not do it. Besides I'm sure the waiters and waiteresses must be sick of doing it too.
I hate it! I don't want to be the center of attention and I don't want a bunch of people singing Happy Birthday and adding goofy little rhymes, claps, and silly antics...not my thing...

Wait a sec...when I was in college we would fake our birthdays to get free desserts! and sometimes, on Fridays or Saturdays we would get free drinks!! That was fun! Sing all ya' want if you're bringing beer!
Just quietly bring me my birthday cake... or tear up the bill. If I want music I'll turn on the radio.
Telling the waiter about birthdays is something my wife and I both threaten when we go out to celebrate one. I think we've both done it once -- to the other. It's not something we enjoy.
I got no problem with friends and family singing Happy Birthday to me in a restaurant but I suspect that's because there's a few of us that share a birthday so it's not just me getting serenaded.
I truly do not need to hear from the wait staff unless they're so incredibly gifted they shouldn't be waiting tables anyway.

Noooooooooooo--don't want that. There is nothing I hate more than being the center of attention. What are you supposed to do the whole time--grin like an idiot?
I love when they put a toilet paper necklace around your neck and a coffee filter as a birthday hat. That's a Kodak moment.
