I've just spent three days in children's hospital with my daughter. On Wednesday, she rolled off the bottom bunk and onto the floor. As she did so, her foot caught the ladder and the ladder came down on her face, embedding the hook of the ladder (through the skin) and through her eye socket into her sinus cavity . Fire rescue had to cut the hook from the ladder to transport her to the hospital. These guys are good. How they managed the ladder and cut that close to her face is beyond me (they told me not to look).

Anyway, she's home now. They rebuilt the orbital and repaired the damage to the cheek bone. We have to wait to see if there is permanent nerve damage of if she'll need surgery on the tear duct or the muscles to the eye. She's very lucky she still has the eye. The doctor says she can't figure out how it went in the way it did and didn't take out the eye.

I'm tired. I'm going to go take a nap.

Oh my! That's terrible. I'm glad it wasn't worse and hope everything turns out okay. How old is she?

She's 13 and, not surprisingly, worried about how big her scars will be. I'm just thankful she's alive and still has her eye. I keep telling her she's lucky but she thinks if she were lucky this wouldn't have happened.

How unfortunate, I am sorry to hear this, I hope your daughter recovers well. Just goes to show you never can stop worrying about the safety of your kids, no matter their age.

OMG, that sounds awful! Poor you, and your daughter. Sending positive thoughts your way for a speedy recovery and minimal scaring.

At age 13 she's going to very concerned about scarring. If it scars much take her to a plastic surgeon. And reassure her that it's always an option.
