Yep, I agree, for some people if they never "settled" for the consolation prize they would be single for a LONG time, some people are not ok with that. BTW it is a competition otherwise the first choice would have been available. Just because someone is your consolation prize does not mean your stringing them along either.

I think there are a fair number of equally matched relationships but those are typically ones in which the guy in that relationship had to bust his rear end for and even though he will never admit it there is a fear that she has options (unless the equal matching is that they are both not so attractive).

Of course you never admit this, I have never admitted this even though my girl friend has very frankly told me this, she is still happy but its impossible not to know unless you just graduated high school from a rural area and are incredibly naïve.
