I don't really know how familiar any of us are with the "kids of today", but as an example, a friend of mine was working late one day and asked me if I'd go pick up her daughter from school. I said sure. While waiting outside for her to come out, and mind you, this was a middle school (grades 6-8), I overheard a group of girls talking and saying things like "Did you know 'so-and-so is humping so-and-so". I was shocked. 12 year olds to 14 yr. olds in middle school. And talking about it like it was no big deal. But no one was making comments like, "and yeah.. she really didn't want to do it".
Yeah. This situation is terrifying. It seems to be rather recent that this stuff begins as early as middle school. I wonder what these kids will be like 5-10 years from now?
I've always wondered how these poor things manage to learn to cross the streets at 18 and 1 day since traffic gets stopped for them to cross while they're still in school let's say a few days earlier.
At 18 and 1 day, most kids ARE still in school so the traffic would still be stopped. Most kids graduate while they are 18....they don't simply get booted out on their birthday.

What's terrifying is overhearing parents say things like, "I'm just hoping Becky manages to graduate High School before she becomes pregnant!"

Well, in the eighth grade at my daughter's very nice, top-end public school, a scandal erupted when several 13-year-olds were busted at the mall for dispensing oral favors behind the movie theater for cash--so they could buy clothes. Evidently, their mothers couldn't figure out where they were getting these really nice clothes and shoes. One girl cracked, and several others were found out. A shame that they didn't catch the sleazy MFs who were giving them the cash.

My birthday is in September (it was always right at the beginning of the school year) and I was in high school still for 9 months after turning 18.
I think it depends on the area of the country. I think the cutoff dates may be December 1st or so in the Northeast and some parts of the Midwest and half the kids graduate at 17 and half at 18.
I don't think I've ever heard of crossing guards being used in high schools at all actually....that's pretty much limited to elementary schools I think.
