In my experience the ONLY way this can happen is IF and ONLY IF:
Neither finds the other attractive (personality, physically and etc..)
If this rule is broken, then one party will always have a side agenda. That MAY eventually lead to problems...IMO
The assumption underlying the subject of this thread is that all men find all women attractive and vice versa. But if you have no attraction, then you're safe and can be friends. If you're worried that you can't be friends with someone because they're the opposite sex, you give yourself too much credit. They may not find you attractive. It's like the guys who are afraid of gay men, thinking that all gay men want them. Guess what? Not all of them do.
History tells me it is not safe for me. Don't think I am inflating my own head. I would rather not have to limit my potential friend pool. I am not saying all women find me attractive just that it is not worth the risk to be in that situation.
That's a bunch of hooey ... IMO ... I have female friends that are very attractive, and I'm not too bad lookin' .

i totally think women and men can be friends. i'm not attracted to every single man out there so why would i be attracted to every male friend. i can't speak for men, nor would i want to, but i would imagine there are many, many men who feel the same way.
It's funny how all the women are answering that friendship is possible. I highly doubt it though unless the guy is just too shy or timid to admit it.
Um, I'm a guy; and as I've said, I have several very good friends who happen to be female.
