Does it matter? An awful lot of people on this board seem more interested in being amazed someone is a 42 year old virgin, or in making veiled comments suggesting the guy is a "loser" than in answering his question. That's unfortunate.

Why he is a virgin doesn't matter. Could be for religious reasons, and he is now changing his views some. Could be he hasn't met the right person. Could be he isn't that great with women. Could be he's ignored dating and focused on career. Who knows.

Bottom line is, sexual past is really not anyone's business. He should tell this woman he's inexperienced, but other than that, there's no need to go into detail. Certainly not on a first date.

I love how people all seem to think if you are 42 and a virgin that somehow means you should have sex with anyone who as willing ASAP. Virginity is just a status - nothing more. It doesn't change your views about sex one way or the other.

So, OP, my advice - don't have sex just to have it. If you want to do it, but are nervous, that's natural - have the sex. If you don't, then don't. If you want to wait and date the woman a while longer first, that's totally normal - and if you are interested in her long term - perhaps advisable!

It is possible for a man to be a 42 year old virgin if he is ugly and can not afford the services of a prostitute because he works at a minimum wage job.

Most guys who are below average in looks and do not have a high paying job, do not really have an active sex life anyways unless they are settling for very ugly women.
