When I look back at my various jobs, I have determined the thing that helped me from not going completely insane from boredom was a "work spouse." This was usually someone I "clicked with" who was of the opposite sex. He was usually married, like me, but liked to have a close work friend who he could share a common bond, and the ability to interact during the day. Because many men do not interact well one on one socially he would appreciate having someone other than his wife to talk to. If we did not work together the relationship would not be possible.
There was no flirting, no hanky panky and no contact outside of work. But because we worked so closely with each other we ended up talking more than my husband and I do. In some ways I knew these men better than my own spouse. But once the job ended we drifted apart quickly.
Have you ever had a "work spouse" in a job? Tell us about him or her?
