Sex is a basic human need for the vast majority of people.

Granted, it is not a basic physiological need like food or water. No one dies it they don't get sex. But sex appears to be something most people need to stay mentally and emotionally healthy. Many studies have found, for example, that prolonged abstinence correlates very strongly with higher than normal levels of anxiety and depression, as well as other mood disorders.

I had to chime in here there is a study on everything does not mean it is true . Sex is not life sustaining and I dont think it has a darn thing to do with mood disorders or depression or anxiety . Some crack pot wrote a paper on it and now everyone seems to think it is the truth . this is how all that crap gets started .

Happily. I don't enjoy it and few people arouse me in any way.

Really? And how does personal responsibility factor into this. Sex isn't a birthright so lack of it isn't a suitable excuse to become depressed and start losing your mind.

To dismiss peer-reviewed scientific research out of hand without even having read any is not just ignorant, it is actually anti-intelligence.

There are also a lot of peer reviewed studies that show germs cause disease--will you be dismissing those as well? I think you are completely scientifically illiterate.

Of course you can live without sex. My prior marriage is a perfect example of that. However, it wasn't a happy or fulfilling life, nor would it be for almost anyone with a normal sex drive. If you have low libido, you'd probably have no issues about lack of sex. So yes, I can "live" without it, but as long as I have any testosterone left, I'm going to want it and will find life to be bleak otherwise.
