Actually cork board works better.
Cover your bedroom in cork board? How ridiculous.

Nothing like letting the child rule the roost.

How about setting some parameters for the 10 year old. Like bed at a certain hour, don't come in mom and dad's room without knocking - that kind of stuff. I mean, gee, it seems to work for most people and what's the big deal if he hears some moaning/smooching/noise?

My girls have heard things in the past. They think it's gross - I tell them to keep that attitude.

I send my kids to the park, outside to play or ask them if they could call their friend down the street and play at thier house for a while. Either that or give them $10 and tell them they can go to McDonalds and play there. At least then you get a good 45min.

When they were younger, the neighbors house still worked....and in my current house (2 story and pretty large) I could tell them to play video games in the basement for a bit which put them A LONG way from the bedroom.

Other tricks? Turn a fan on in thier bedroom, it creates cover noise.
Also, just check out sound a sleeper your kids are. Turn up radio etc. LOUD in your room then go in their room and see how much can be heard. Might put you at ease.

[quote=spanko75;9407355]It's natural and it's healthy and it should be done in private, no matter what age. I don't know about the age of 5, but definitely between the age of 8 and 10 was when I discovered it.

Hence the name SPANKO?

When my kids were little we had to get creative, it was probably half the fun. We liked to strike while the iron was hot and that wasn't always at night. There are soooooo many ways to do this.

Does that involve machinery that will drown out any sounds coming from the house?
