Your walking along..and someone says "hey How are you?"...."And you say hey I'm fine".....Then they laugh(they were talking to the person behind you) They walk away and say "Did you see that person say hi to me..."

Then you feel like a dumb*ss. Has this ever happen to you?

Yes, it happens to me all the time! Usually it's because some clown is wearing a bluetooth on their ear, while yapping and looking directly at me. I don't see the bluetooth, so I get closer and say "what?"

It happened a few days ago in Starbucks. I was waiting for my hot, delicious beverage and the lady behind the counter was looking at me and talking. I got closer, then she moved away from me and continued her conversation with somebody behind me.

I've also been known to have "conversations" with people while I'm in a toilet stall. Someone says hello, and I say hi right back. I'm usually answering their questions, when they start talking over me and I become painfully aware they are not talking to me - they are on a damn cell phone!!!

Yup I have mistook someones comments to mean they're talking to me and then my sense of humor kicks in and I just laugh it off.No point in me getting all out of shape over something that was my mistake anyhow.

I should shove something in my ear so I can legitimately talk to myself, too.

I occasionally answer people who are in the same room with me.. then find out they're on a tiny cellphone...

also have the opposite experience- when somebody waves at me, I automatically assume they're waving at someone else & look behind me first to be sure they're not

This happens to me sometimes, esp at work.
Someone leaving, say, the break room will say "bye", and I'll go, "bye."
And then I'll notice that the person was talking to somebody else, not me.

I don't let it worry me overmuch.
