When my father died, I flew home. There was an half-a-day debate on where to bury him. At the spot reserved for his race (back in his village) or that of my mom. Mom's family started having butterflies in the stomach. But the catholic priests were nice to let us use the church's cemetery reserved for priests and distinguished laity. He worked for the laity for at least 25 years. Mind you, all these folks are catholics. But they're converts from the early 20th century. They have not given up their roots yet.

It's not even racism back in my home, it's more subtle, coz they still touch you, be friends, let you eat from the same table. But I was watching this movie Hidalgo once and the whole movie is on mixed horses versus thorough-breed. It's a great movie and nothing offensive, but I started to brood because I knew what it meant to be for a painted horse. They simply don't let you run in the race. Otherwise, you can just go graze in the pastures
what do you mean by 'classy'?

She worked in my building. Each time she passed me, my liver and pancreas shifted co-ordinates. That classy

I've known cases of individuals being dumped by family members and never spoken to ever again. The families felt so strongly about not mixing the races that they pulled a crime/mafia family-type
disappearance. Not a killing, but might as well have been with a complete disowning. Pitiful, just pitiful. And boy has the dumped family members suffered! Proceed With Caution!

That's ridiculous! It's amazing what people can be concerned with right after losing a relative! I'm sorry.

Happened to me many years ago. I'm half Indian. A woman I dated had parents who mentioned she should never have a kid with me cause he might come out brown. (We were of the same religion and background as my mothers side actually)The whole lot of them were nuts though and the each moved out and went their separate ways. Lots of hate and drama in the house. Things like this along with so much pain in the world is what drove me away from religion in the first place. Another story for perhaps another time and thread though.

When someone's got a hardcore one track mind of prejudice, nothing will change their view. They could have their life saved by a person of the race they despise, and it would make no difference. Sad but a fact in this world we live in.

Sorry op you have to deal with this. It can leave one feeling very much like an outsider, remember we are not alone in this though. There will always be people who are accepting and have experienced similar. Even if they are harder to find these days.

My 02.

Thanks for the heads up. Missed that and now I bumped the thread also. Didn't realize old threads pop up below in some spots.
