Is gaydar true or just a stereotype??
It's got some truth to it; though it's mostly based on stereotypes and assuming someone is gay because they exhibit some of those mannerisms assigned to gay men. However, some testing have shown that gay people can recognize other gay people in a significant measure.

You are right, it can be difficult to approach someone outside of a gay venue. That's where the hints come in while you're talking. Mentioning that you spend time at a known gay establishment is usually the easiest hint dropper.

It depends on where you like to go. Saying, "I'm tired today. I was out late last night with friends at Cityside," is way better than: "I'm tired today. I was out last last night with friends at The Giant [alternative word for rooster].

Either way....Good Lord, that has to be kinda scary.... I mean really.
What if you think you are hitting on a gay dude, and he turns out to be straight. I would be so scared to get the crap knocked out of me....YIKES! I guess ya` all know the "language, huh?"

1. I'm a big guy and can take care of myself in a fight.

2. The flirting or hitting on a guy doesn't commence until you're sure they play on your team.

I've made one or two mistakes in my time. Never a bad situation; one of the guys is now my best friend

Unfortunately it is true. Uneducated and religious people hate gays because they been told by their pastors that "it is not normal". Which is BS, because it is totally normal in natural world.
But, gays can get aggressive answer and judgment easily. So if I would be a gay, then I would be very careful with hitting on other guys. Even world can hurt.
