Are smilies etc during texting, especially in the beginning, a turn off? This question is meant for women.

Wouldn't that depend on the individual?

A few smileys are fine. Text is so brief and stark that it's usually devoid of emotion.

Using too many emoticons is corny, but I'll throw them in here and there to emphasize that "this is a joke" or "I am being sarcastic."

An emoticon after every text is a turn off. I even hate that when my girlfriends do that. It's irritating and kind of stupid. A well placed emoticon can be hilarious. Or even endearing.

Use the poop emoji or get out.

I know in email type texting they are good but starting to get the impression with phone texting that it should be avoided.

Starting to get the idea that texting should be approached as a micro email that you might get interrupted in the middle of writing. Otherwise it's always a disaster that hopefully you survive before the next call or meet.

But really, I think a smiley or two is ok. My dad has used smilies since forever and it's kind of a joke now to see how many he uses. Of course emojis are his favorite. Nobody has ever seriously been annoyed by it. Obviously you shouldn't use emojis like the side-eye one unless you really know what you're doing.

Just don't add to many LOL's. I personally hate them and most of my friends don't use them either.
