Has anyone experienced that when someone is too available to you you are less interested and then when they become scarce you reconsider? Is that game playing or should you not be too available to raise your value?

I mean if I call someone everyday, they sound like they expected it and not too excited. But if I haven't talked to them in a week and then call the tone in their voice is clearly different, more upbeat and happy. I'm just talking about newer relationships where you might only see them once a week. I wouldn't think of not calling for a week in a serious relationship.

It's so true and I know for a fact I have a problem with it. I get way more response when I back off and make myself not as readily available.

I don't think it is always that. It is in some cases. But just imagine someone calling you a lot. Conversation gets dull. You run out of things to talk about. But if its been a week, everything is fresh. They may not being playing games, but I doubt they are strongly interested, just somewhat interested. They could become more interested over time, but it seems to be risky or a waste of time. I guess the best thing to do would be back off and meet new people, but keep it open.

I'm sure there is a happy medium like talking every 2 or 3 days or a shorter conversations if it's more often. But I do find the phenomenon kind of odd that people's view of someone can change for the positive, just because they haven't been in contact for a while.

It sounds like you have"kept it open" long enough. She is apparently well aware that you are interested in her.
Reverse the technology! Just try it. See if you don`t get a diffrent reaction. Do you think you can do this, or would you drop to your knees when she called, or emailed you?
Could you, ignore her, if she tried to contact you?

I'm not dating right now, just looking back and wondering about situations from the past.

Then, backing off is a good thing.

I don't like it when anyone calls me every day. Its not about playing games or anything. I am just not a phone person. Butsome people love to be called everyday. I think this is a case of the different strokes for different folks. Blowing people off in order to make them want you more is a game though.

How does backing off pique someones interest?

Because they are fearful that you have lost interest in them.
