I don't know what you can do for your friend, but it doesn't sound like he's being abusive, it sounds like he has literally gone NUTS! She should take the kids and RUN, get a restraining order against him and leave town.

She said he is not being physically abusive...
I was wondering if he was doing drugs, had a psychotic break or has a brain tumor but I never thought about an affair
WHAT WAS THE REASON? Does she know the reason for all this? Was it just because the house could not sell, and they couldn't support 2 mortgages? In other words, the financial situation flipped him?

It is not a financial issue that she knows of...they bought the new house outright with no mortgage and they have vacation homes that are paid off along with the home they are returning to...I think he just lost it...

I don't care if he's not hitting her. Taking all their money and removing all the phones and computers are red flags, especially since she said she is worried he is isolating her. I don't think any judge would hesitate to give her a restraining order if she wanted one.
I know she is your friend, and I don't want to be flippant or overly dramatic, but there is some scary stuff in the news about people who just flip out and do bad things. Is she a strong person? Can she stand up to him?

I wasn't denying it is abusive I was just stating she said he is not physically abusive..
I think she is strong but obviously confused so I don't know what she would do to help herself..
Words to you money grubbing gals out there...this guy is a doctor..makes great money I bet...but is a nut case....better a simple, modest guy than a nutty rich man!
The behavior she described to you scares me, quite frankly. If she was my friend I think I'd do anything in my power to convince her to take her children and leave.
