The reason behind it is because some men think inflating their number of lovers will make them look good (to boast their ego) but that wouldn't impress me the least. Honestly, I would get disgusted if a man told me he had 100+ lovers. Talk about STD's worries.
It would be disgusting too if I found out it was a lie but he just did it to make him feel better. Either way it would be proceed by a ''take a hike'' statement.
