I'll ask a guy to open a jar for me every once in a while. It often makes the guy feel wanted / needed - he's knows that I don't always ask (so I'm not being "needy"). - And it's not that I can't open the jar myself...
I have always believed that it's little things like that make a man feel special

I will be the first to admit that I like to have my ego stroked as much as anyone, and I think it might be fun once in a while, but I would not want it going on all the time and I certainly would not like during a crisis.

When she comes up behind me and hugs, when she lays her head on my chest and rubs me with a sigh, when she gets cozy and lovely dovy in a chair with me, when she teases (razzes) me in a (giving me a hard time but with a smile) way, that makes me feel special.

I TOTALLY agree with you on this, 100%. I love that feeling.
and need the assistance of a man or do you find it annoying would you rather her be uber independent?
The ex was a passive dependent. That was OK when I was young and foolish but as I matured it became cloying, clingy, smothering and annoying.
I was attracted to my wife by, among other things, her delightful independence. I found it refreshing and still do. Now she's somewhat disabled and needs my assistance but her independent nature still shines through.
Well, I know for a fact that there are just certain things that women can't do on their own....a man is needed (Those darn toys just aren't the same )
I enjoy men for other things then just that, of course
