I can't cook to save my life. In fact, having me in the kitchen can be a detriment to my family.

But my husband knew that when he married me. (I suffer from food aversion.)

We're not just talking about screwing in lightbulbs or making bologna sandwiches here, gwynedd1. It's a matter of being able to put out a meal from scratch, not from a box of hamburger helper here. We're talking about being a "good" cook...and that takes time and practice, like everything else in life. The whole point my of post was to bring to light, just how silly some folks in society are. If ALL women 'SHOULD' be good cooks....then all men 'SHOULD' be good mechanics and fix it guys. It makes just as much sense.

There are some women out there who were born with the aptitude for cooking, some who weren't. Some men were born with a mechanical aptitude, some couldn't change their oil. We wouldn't need each other if we all possessed the same skill sets...that's just common sense and logic!

Screwing in a light bulb is certainly NOT in the category of basic home repair . Screwing in a light bulb is akin to heating soup in a pot, and any blithering idiot can do that. Those are not cooking "skills", and I don't believe they are what Beachmel was referring to, at ALL. That is certainly not what I am referring to when I state that someone knows how to "cook".

As far as home repairs, you bet your bottom dollar that many people DO have to hire people to do basic work around the house. All the time.

Since I earn my living cooking for a bunch of men, I find this thread very amusing.. I can not tell you how many times my crews have told me they need to find ME a husband! I am to good a cook to NOT have a husband! LOL! I respond by telling them that I cook 3 meals a day for 28 days and have to deal with THEM for 28 days at a time... WHY would I want one at home to do that for too and have to deal with?

(Shuts 'em up every time! )

Hi beachmel,

Cooking does not imply a gourmand. Also thread is do most men expect women to be good cooks, so again, your use of all women is not comparable. Anyway, I expect most people should have figured out by now that knowing what you are eating is a form of self defense. Look at what has happened.

All I can do is speak in my case. However I see very strong correlations to people who have no control over what they actually eat. So it would not surprise me many people in general like this quality.

I can tell you from personal experience womenalmost always appreciated this ability. I suspect it was a two fold advantage. Not only did they like what they ate, but it also implies I do not slavishly follow sex roles. I am certain that men also calculate that women who cook do not slavishly evade them. So again, its a two fold burden that a women must over come. So what is the answer? The answer is it is a big plus for a woman to have that food provider association. I suspect it is hardwired from birth that first food we had was mother's milk.

However no one has to do anything if they don't want. They just need to settle for what the market will bear.

Hi Laura,

Don't let all these men sway any of you. You see in the 21st century what men say they like in women is invalidated by the flawed logic of a modern woman. Even though men everywhere say they like this ability in women, its not true because some women don't want it to be true. As in the career threads does anyone ever notice men don't swarm in and back up these opinions? Nope, its women telling people what men want.

So again the question was asked: Do men expect women to be good cooks?

I don't know if they expect it, but it certainly helps.

Thank you! Because I dont care what all the men say who are on here yapping about men want women to cook, and those who dont are lazy, or that is why the woman is single, etc. I tell you what.

If it came down to a woman who was nice to them, kept the house clean, and cooked so good she should have her own cooking show..but was kinda sucky in bed, low sex drive, and only wanted to do just the standard missionary position once every 2 weeks.....

...Or the woman who was nice to them, kept the house clean, was a poor cook or not all that thrilled with cooking..but she f---d him like a porn star on Extacy every single day, guess what?

He would be willingly doing 60% of the cooking and the other 40% he would be lovingly helping the porn star WITH the cooking.

And Julia Childs would be on the corner with packed bags.

I mean really..it's MEN we are talking about here. It aint that hard. No pun intended.

Seriously, all other things being equal (she is a good woman, good mother, treats the man well) hot sex will win out over stuffed chicken any day.

All I see going on here is the typical human nature to get as much a one can with as little as possible.

The dream of a male patriarchy is often lauded by men who typically attempt to create an emphasis to their benefit. Men work but should have no responsibility in the house with children or anything else. Men should be able to go to the pub and play pool or discuss politics etc. Of course since men have "needs", he may have some "fun" with the bar maid. The flaw? Well where is the extended family that used to share this burden so that a woman is not driven mad? Sorry buddies, you cannot skim the cream of paradise. Also how many men realize the risk a woman takes by quitting her job and cooking at home to be dumped in 5 years? Oops.

So then in the matriarchy, the dream is for a woman to narcissistically follow her dreams , eat what she likes, wear what she likes and have all of mankind adore her for it. Then of course since she is so magnificent in her own eyes she is to have the best of the men. Sorry laddies, but it does not work that way. You cannot sell to men what you wish them to buy. Its a compromise.

Humans....
