The other night my husband invited his friends over for dinner. I have cooked some simple stuff: breaded chicken cutlets with sweet potato home fries, sauteed veggies and a salad. His friends kept raving about how delicious the food was and how much they have enjoyed it. The look on my husband's face was priceless and it felt really good to see that he is proud of me. He didn't even have to say anything.
I'd like a girl to be at a similar cooking-level as me, which means pretty much like the average early 20s guy. that way we can cook together
Otherwise i don't care as long as the cooking don't get put on me completely...
I will say women who are cooking are sexy though... there's always a chance for some fun on the kitchen table...
LOL! I was wearing a cute little apron yesterday while doing some baking and my husband couldn't keep his hands off of me. I think he's just excited over the fact that I'm becoming more domesticated.
Here's the thing... if you're in a relationship you have to bring some sort of skill set to the partnership.
I don't hold well with this is a girl-job and this is a boy-job and they each have to do that all the time.
I've got a mean set of domestic skills, because I enjoy those things. I've also got skills in various home repair, financial areas, etc.
My BF brings his skill sets to the relationship also.
As long as each half of the relationship is bringing value to the whole it doesn't matter who does what.
But if your sitting back and saying "I don't do that domestic stuff!", you have to present what you do in place of that. Everyone has to pull their weight.
Mrs. Chow is in the kitchen as I type this, whipping up a Tuscan beef stew with polenta, replete with wine....of course....
Smells good.
Do I expect her to, no, but it sure is a nice way to top off a work week.
Chowhound...I am jealous of you. That sounds so delicious!
@ the OP
I think men expect women to know how to cook SOMETHING. Maybe not chef level, but they should know more than the basics (cooking rice). I expect my husband to have some sort of cooking skill as well. I don't consider making things like spaghetti real cooking.

We usually do a lot of cooking together.... we'll dig up a recipe and give her a go...... I have a pretty good natural instinct for cooking.
I've have thought about going to get some formal training and becoming a chef......
I think the expectations depend on the man... I think as women work more and more outside the house the expectations of being a good cook is not as rigid. Money talks, but it don't hurt to throw down in the kitchen as well as the bedroom. LOL "U can reach a man's heart through the stomach."
