This will be my 4th year in a row being single on Valentine's Day. Oh well. The only thing I don't like about it is that V day, like xmas, is one of those days where you are painfully aware of your single status.
To be honest, I'm only aware of Valentine's Day when I'm NOT single. If I'm single, it's just another day to me.

I'm happy for those who have a SO to celebrate with...hope it is a fun and romantic day.
For the rest of us, I say lets just call the day Singles Awareness Day (ironically the initials spell SAD). Truthfully, I am not unhappy that I am single again. It seems easier than putting up with some of the sad, unhappy relationships that are often discussed on this forum.
My thing is, why try to get a date JUST for Valentine's Day when it's gonna be a wrap after the fact? That's silly. So many people do it up on V-Day when you should be showing your man/woman love 24-7, 365, not wait for one day out of the year to show your special someone just how much they mean to you.
Funny. My wife and I have been together almost twenty years, and we've celebrated Valentine's Day exactly once. In the first few years of our relationship, my wife had a job with heavy travel, so she was always on the road when February 14th rolled around.
To be honest, I think the entire holiday was whipped up by FTD, Hallmark, Whitman's Candies, and the restaurant owners of the world to juice their business in what is traditionally a dead time of the business year.

I totally agree--most of the holidays we celebrate are like that, even Christmas. Not that they invented Christmas, but they made it the monstrosity it is today.
Someone earlier in this thread gave me an idea though--a bar owner could juice up business by hosting an anti-Valentines day party for the sour singles. Now that would be fun. A pity party for 150--what do you think--would it take off?

See, now why did you have to turn this into an opportunity to disparage single people?
Amen brotha. I'll simply buy one of my closest female friends some Russell Stover candies (women love that) and a heartfelt card, call it a day. If I get some, that's cool.
So, is THAT why men buy things for women on Valentine's Day?? To "get some"?? How crass.
Even when I was dating/married I never put much stock in Valentine's Day. I cared a lot more about the day to day 'stuff'. But then I'm not, and never have been, a "romantic".
