Anyway, all of these topics are more of political than health issues, so we're not likely to agree.
Bottom line...if you are not a parent of a child with a DIAGNOSED disorder you really can't say what does and does not exist. Parents living with these kinds of problems don't care whether you think they are real or not - they know what they live with.
Believe me, if it were YOUR child you'd understand a whole lot better than you do right now. Count yourself lucky you don't have a child with these uphill battles to face.
Did you know that methylphenidate is a stimulant? That the effect on most people is different from the effect on the person suffering from ADD or ADHD. See, there's a difference even in those two diagnoses. And there are adults who have the disease as well--generally, they're better at multitasking, and find it hard to focus on one thing at a time.
I always listen to music or TV while posting, to give me more than one thing to focus on--I'm 40 years old, this isn't something new for me. If I don't have other distractions, my mind races so much that it actually hurts me.
There's many thankful parents for the the ADD and ADHD diagnoses and scripts. On the flip side it created the RX generation. I can't tell you how many young ppl I know who got older and realized the power the drugs have, then moved on to abuse them sell them to their friends ect. They don't think the abuse is wrong bc they were prescribed the meds. It's a big racket with the RX generation and a huge problem.
There were episodes on Desperate Housewifes a few seasons back where Felocity Huffmans character was stealing and abusing ADD meds from her neighbors medicine cabinet, so she could burn the candle at both ends and be supermommy, until her problem got out of control. I don't think it's TV fiction, it's common.

I already mentioned this diagnose - people with XX chromosomes can multitask and people with XY chromosomes can't.
OK, enough of that. I don't have a horse in this race. If I wanted to argue about it, I'd be in Politics.
