For all the hoopla about a car losing 2000$ in resale value once you roll it out of the showroom, I'd be happy to invest in a car that is less than 30 grand
I laugh at people who get a Lexus or a porsche and pay close to 1000 a month on car payments and their salaries aren't even six figures
Yea, but the smart people buy them used, and pay for them in cash. I got to admit, I'm in love with the 911 GT2 but for 100k+ when they first came out well, I don't have that kind of money but now in 2010, if I save my pennies, I can pick up a used one for 40k or maybe even less.
That's what all of us ol' ladies drive - reliable boring cars! If we could only do the same with men...
Yep. I drive an Outback now, and I'd buy another one of those, too! Much to my son's chagrin of course. He's hoping I'll buy something "hot". Ha. He missed the one hot car (my red Celica was a head turner when she was new!) I'll ever have. Actually he was 5 when she bit the dust...so he doesn't remember her like I do.

40g's is too much to pay for a depreciating investment.

I got effed and scammed by a dealer who sold me my corolla for nearly 11 grand
Simple, I was new in the US and desperate to buy a car. Went on my own, no research, no idea.......
And I'm paranoid I'll get scammed again.
At least, if it's a 25 grand camry hybrid, it will be brand new and I'll feel better and not feel like an idiot for getting scammed, when it dawns on me 12 months later

You need to take Spinx with you. Someone frugal, that is.
I agree, on both counts. My boss just got a new Lexus...it's really nice. But he knows that he is paying for the cookies and gourmet coffees in the customer lounge.
Hay those cookies are good! My mentor had the newest Benz and when we would stop at the dealer they would treat you so nice and wash your car after any minor work they did. In fact, I miss going to the Benz dealership; it's a good place to shoot a breeze while eating various pastries.
