When I say chemistry I mean that 'click' along with physical chemistry; not just physical or sexual chemistry What do other people mean when they say 'chemistry'?
To me, "chemistry" is when you just get another person. I joke a lot and am sarcastic a lot, and don't want to constantly be explaining myself or ruining a perfectly good joke.
Also "chemistry" to me has a lot to do with trust. Trusting whether or not the other person is handling their responsibilities from day to day, or is disaster right around the corner?
Chemistry is probably defined differently for everybody.
Chemistry (attraction) is not over rated, it's important. Without chemistry I don't think a relationship can be anything more than a friendship. That said, chemistry is not the only factor that a relationship needs. To each their own - but there needs to be a connection on other areas such as social, religion, finance, morals, etc. This is not to say that 2 people have to agree on every subject or area of life (that's not possible) but there needs to be compatibility.
They say there is no perfect relationship. This is true, but:
1. what imperfections in a person or situation would make you say no to amazing chemistry?
2. And what makes you STAY and develop a relationship even with things/the other person (that great chemistry person) not being perfect?
3. Is Chemistry over-rated?
1. I met a girl from online dating who ended up having a disability with her legs and arms where she didn't have 100% functionality. I stuck the date out and we got a long really well and had a great time. But I also respected her enough not to lead her on and just ignored her texts until she stopped. I just personally couldn't deal with the disability, it made me feel uncomfortable and I felt bad for her. I felt bad about it for a long time, still do.
2. The good outweigh the bad. Everyone has flaws, but sometimes you learn to deal with them or you learn to love them and just accept that's who they are. Some people make the mistake of trying to change someone's flaws, but you can't always make someone change if they don't want to. People can change, but they can only change themselves.
Chemistry does not translate into longevity necessarily. Chemistry is a good thing, but life is so much bigger. I think maturity and wisdom are the mitigating factors trumping chemistry for me. I will opt for Compatibility every time.
