You killed it by suggesting a movie. You basically told him that you don't want to sit with him and get to know him - you would rather be entertained by the big screen without putting any effort into it.

Getting to know someone is something that needs to be done at the beginning. And, unfortunately, a movie doesn't allow that. Especially if it's just a movie and nothing else.
