I've never worked in retail or food service but I get the impression by the way the girls behind the counter react that most other customers are not very friendly.

When we roll up in the classic cars at the drive-ins they are all over us. Most are just harmless flirting though!

Oh hell yea I always flirt. I have that kind of quick/sarcastic/witty personality that allows me to get away with saying things others can't. My flirts always command a smile from her. I love it and it feels good to do. Especially when the flirt is a compliment.
Just the other day I bought a new pair of running sneakers at Pay Less Shoes. As I was paying, the pretty girl behind the counter asked for my phone number. You know how some stores ask it for tracking purposes and most of us refuse. I said if I give you my number, it goes in your pocket, not into that cash register and you will use it tonight. She went from her robotic routine action with a frown to one of shy blushy cheek surprise and a smile from ear to ear. Maybe her first smile all night from her boring crappy paying job.
She asked if I really wanted her to call me tonight. I said "my friend, I am a lot older then I look and if I were younger I would have already asked for your number". With that I left with a smile and some kind words.
Well if it's older than twenties, they yes. but i don't relate to younger women much, i think i'm developing the sensibilities of an old man lately.
I don't get this. What exactly do you mean by not relating to them?
