I see, forcing a woman to work to support the family is much less disrespectful, and more of a way of putting her on a pedestal. How could I have been so blind?
It really doesn't have to be such a big deal. I know a lot of women get the short end of the stick due to poor choices, but as long as both spouses in a marriage engage their lives with respect and quality in mind it's pretty good. That has been my experience and I wouldn't trade it to live in a hovel box where welfare and mental illness are requirements to glean value. No thanks.
I've been employed in some capacity since I was 17, and never been out of work for more than a week.
Same for me, except I've been working since I was 13.

Why should women receive different treatment than men in any regard? That's what I'm not understanding.
Because nothing on television could possibly be based on reality?
So we can assume there is no way a black man could become a doctor, like on the Cosby Show, because that was a complete exercise in fantasy?
Do you really believe the The Cosby Show is representative of typical black (or white) America in the 80s? The Cosby show, according to Bill Cosby in interviews, was a stage to promote family values as a response to how blacks were represented on TV at the time. Initially, the show was supposed to depict a blue collar family and it took a turn from the norm and mimicked Cosby's own family, the ideal. Any person that would look to the Cosby Show as a historical account of black history in the US is simply nuts. Same goes for Father's knows best.

Sure, it took the ideal, the best possible. But the question is--was it unattainable or unbelievable? At the same time, you had shows that showed a white blue collar family like Roseanne. But that's impossible also, right?

Women are special and fragile creatures that deserve special treatment and should not be treated like any other man. They should not be abused, or required to get off their pedestals.

The question is not whether it's attainable or unattainable. Who knows. To have five black kids that don't have to face the harsh realities of racism? It's unlikely, but maybe. The question is if it's a historical account of anything, and the answer is no. Really, Tkramar, what in the world are you thinking?

You're contradicting yourself again. Just a few pages ago you stated that a person, a woman, does not need to thrive, only survive. So, you don't believe women deserve any special treatment.

Oh. That explains it.
