For thousands of years folks who didn't buy the virgin birth, resurrection stories have been ostricized, persecuted and murdered for it. The Crusades, the Inquisitions, the Witch Hunts, the random wars and just everyday social stigma has come down hard on anyone who doubted the theistic views of life and the afterlife. Now that the pendelum has begun to swing the other way it will be interesting(to say the least) to see how the bible thumpers accept their pending demise. I'm pretty sure though that we atheists and agnostics won't be so hard on them.

Default Help them!

On the contrary, Mel; I've been trying to convince them to live their lives of realization, love and peace, instead of delusion and assuming it'll all be better in some other illusionary life.

Live for today.

Yep...at least they've stopped killing folks for doubting and no longer burn witches at the stake.

or go about massacring the heathens in the name of the Christian God because we don't believe as they do or doing away with our sacred languages and culture.

I don't see it that way at all. I predict on the side of historical precedence.
The Atheists' "giving them a dose (albeit a "lighter" dose) of their own medicine" idea is just a temporary delusion. For all their effort...over thousands of years...the "No God" crew has really never been much of anything...and still isn't. They now just have the internet to make them think they are doing something...like the couple dozen here that collectively spend thousands of hours...arguing with strangers..."repping" each other...and giving each other "thumbs-up Smilies"...to a negligible end. When all is said and done...it will end up with the Atheists going the way of the two mosquitos that land on your arm to bite you...and keep coming back when you try to shoo them off.

I've posted this before:
I fear that if this keeps up it will end up the way these disputes have ALWAYS ended up throughout human history. And since the God vs No God ratio is 10 to 1 worldwide, its pretty certain how it will turn out.

The Nonbelievers, right or wrong...taunt the Believers at their peril. If you didn't like that "medicine" before...why are you almost assuring yourselves to have to take it again?

You proclaim the "religious" horribly oppressive? Well then, get a clue. When did the truly oppressive ever care about the "rights" of the oppressed? I mean, currently, overall in the world...who oppresses more than religious fanatics? Not too keen an observation of human nature, those Nonbelievers.

Every time I post this kind of thing I'm labeled as sanctioning religious oppression...nothing could be further from the truth. I just see it from a historical viewpoint and know how it has always unfortunately turned out "when push came to shove" on this matter.

It's called progress, and those numbers that you like to bandy about are changing in favor of non belief, and will continue to change. You may not like it, but you are going to have to either learn to live with it or do this....

Yeah...well now there are about 16% in the U S who claim no religious belief. Ironically the forebears who wrote the declaration of independence and drafted the constitution were deists and were outspoken about their hate for the bible. Thomas Jefferson called it a dunghill and wrote his own version of the new testament leaving out the virgin birth, miracles and the resurrection. If you're a pretty fast reader it will take about an hour to read it:

The Jefferson Bible

What pendulum...and whose day is coming? Isn't someone always shouting that someone else's time is at hand? As the old baseball expression has it, you can't tell the players without a scorecard.

The figures seem to be encouraging, but even if they were still the theist article of faith 8% figure, we'd still have to keep explaining why our arguments are the best, being based on evidence and logic and not on Faith.
