Would someone in Rome formally excommunicate me, please? I want to be excommunicated by the Roman Catholic Church because walking away will break my heart.
If you want to free your conscience of what they are doing, then you need to excommunicate YOURSELF from their behavior. Make a break and step away so that you are not connected by association to them. And you could be.
Be proactive here... step away from the inappropriate and dishonorable behavior that is associated with them and make a move away... so that you are not associated with them and what they are known to do.
I was excommunicated years after I walked away...They just didn't realize that I had left already....One of the best things I ever did...Leave all that Catholic guilt they program you with behind...What a great feeling!
You should read the info people put in their posts before making such remarks. His words were the opening sentences of the article he linked to,verbatim.
Just out of curiousity, whats the big deal about being excommunicated? Is this just in Catholicism?
Excommunicated folks can't take communion, which in Catholicism is a major sacrament of salvation. To be excommunicated is,in the opinion of the RCC,practically speaking to be outside the hope of salvation. It appears not that many people really care what the RCC thinks about anything these days.

Mormons have excommunication. I remember reading an article by an ex-Mormon who wanted to be excommunicated and actually had the procedure officially done. I think this article relates her experience.
In Catholicism, and Mormonism too I'd guess, the purpose is ideally more to encourage repentance than punishment.
"It is also a medicinal rather than a vindictive penalty, being intended, not so much to punish the culprit, as to correct him and bring him back to the path of righteousness. It necessarily, therefore, contemplates the future, either to prevent the recurrence of certain culpable acts that have grievous external consequences, or, more especially, to induce the delinquent to satisfy the obligations incurred by his offense."
If you want to leave, or you don't believe in it anymore, excommunication is not really necessary and may not even be advised for all I know. Hence, despite talk, I don't think the singer Madonna was ever excommunicated as it would be unnecessary or unhelpful.
I don't know the difference with the Mormons, but I think Hayden basically asking for excommunication was deemed odd to them too. I'm not sure Catholic Churches would even agree to it on request.
