Are America's christians prime examples of how christian self-examination functions?

That involves the thinking capacity of the human brain.

Assuming that god created the human conscience?
If so then christians do not use it.

I am moral not because of religion, but because of what my parents taught me. I have a conscience because I have the ability to see the difference between right and wrong. I have empathy because I am a caring person.

I was not brought up in a religion, I was not taught about G-d. I was taught to think, discern, and come to a conclusion.

I am a moral, ethical, empathetic person because of my parents.

Many non-religious people are moral, ethical, and have empathy.

Maybe this post is a key. Could it be that christians lack empathy?

No, Many Christians have empathy, like many non-Christians and atheists have empathy.

I think empathy is something within all of us. Whether we use it or not is the issue.

All people have the ability to be caring, ethical, empathetic people.

Jazzy, I wish that was so. I had to learn empathy as an adult. Sometimes, things happen . . . .

True, but the empathy was there to develop and learn.

I think we all have it within us, unfortunately how it develops or does not develop is at the hands of those who raise us.

My point is that I believe the ability to be empathetic is not dependent on religion.

A view I have seen among some religious is that somehow religion is what gives us moral values thus those who are not Christian or atheist somehow are not moral.

Okay. I see what you are saying. And now that you bring it up, I remember having empathy as a toddler.
