I am guilty of not reading the poll before I voted. I'm sorry everyone.
If I'd read it beforehand I probably wouldn't have voted because it's hard for me to see myself in those shoes. It would be like a parallel universe considering that I am gay and liberal and agnostic. I generally believe in God, but there are times when I doubt that it exists.
I get hit on by men quite frequently - comes with the town I happen to visit frequently. To me, it's nothing more than a compliment and it doesn't freak me out any more than getting hit on by a woman.
I once had a guy reach out and run his fingers through my hair at a party. I didn't freak - why would I? I told him that I was not a homophobe but that I wasn't a homosexual, either. And that was it - he apologized for being so bold and I told him that there was nothing wrong with finding another human being attractive. I did this as respectfully as I would tell any woman that I wasn't interested in her.
I've never understood why some guys freak out when a gay man shows interest in them. To me, it's no different than if a woman I didn't find attractive were to hit on me. Sometimes I wonder about men who can't accept a compliment from a gay guy, or who can't joke around about homosexuality, or especially the ones who spend most of their time blatantly trying to look as manly as possible. I suspect some of them are in denial and are overcompensating.
If you were Southern Baptist, Catholic, Bible Church, Church of Christ, Mormon, Islam, very religious, and or conservative what would you do if you found out your roommate was agnostic, non-religious, and gay? The roommate doesn't bring home boyfriends, keeps all beliefs to himself, and does not find the roommate attractive.
What would you do to the roommate? Would you try to have him evicted? Harass or bully him out? Beat him up? Get him in trouble with the law by setting him up? Ignore him? Befriend him? Welcome him? Stay neutral and relaxed? Etc.
Kind of impossible for me to answer, because I would need to be so different than I am to be a coservative religious believer that I wouldn't be able to predict what I'd do in a situation like that. It just wouldn't be me, so it's like guessing what a random stranger would do.
it's no different than if a woman I didn't find attractive were to hit on me.
Hard for me to imagine though, lol. There are not many women who are not attractive in my view, and they too rarely do anything that I'd consider hitting on me (versus simply flirting).
