You can help the poor without having to give it to a church first and them taking a cut. In fact, your money would go further.
True, but we can do more together. I mentioned earlier about the medical clinic my church runs & the food pantry. It's virtually impossible to do that on your own. "Lone Ranger" Christianity is not Biblical.
Plus, the Scripture instructs us to meet together & bring an offering.

Why can't our local Catholic church get it through their heads that my dad is dead and they won't be getting anymore money? They even did the funeral!!! I have wrote deceased every month on the envelopes, yet they keep on coming. Of course with most churches, they only care about the $$$. I guess they think I will send them some...lol...keep guessing!!!
My oldest daughter has a masters degree in Religious counseling. She is the chaplain for the police force in a nearby town. She does the bookkeeping and other promotions and without exception sends solicitations for every Walk, Run, Meeting, etc. to me. Recently I told her that I no longer support any organization which promotes the worship of ancient gods. As you might imagine things have grown cold around here lately.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to any of this. I do find it funny that every church seems to think they are the only one's who will go to heaven. Even some of the non-denom's I have attended preach that. At least they agree on something.

Well, I disagree with that. God's Word is the truth.

How about giving money directly to local charities or a children's hospital if you really want to help? I am sure that it would do better there, then in the hands of a church. From my experiences in different churches, they all share the same trait; the hunger for more money. And they can't get enough. I grew up Catholic, attended Church of Christ, Baptist, etc and even visited a Mormon church on more than one occasion. It's all money all the time. And if you don't give? Well, they insinuate that you will burn in hell. One more reason why I stopped going. I can pray at home, read my Bible and talk to God for free.
A Godly deed is known by the fruit it bears without COST!
