Palestinian held for Facebook criticism of Islam - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101111/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_palestinians_facebook_atheist - broken link)

Zainab Rashid, a liberal Palestinian commentator, wrote in an online opinion piece that Husayin has made an important point: "that criticizing religious texts for their (intellectual) weakness can only be combatted by ... oppression, prison and execution."

Now, he faces a potential life prison sentence on heresy charges for "insulting the divine essence." Many in this conservative Muslim town say he should be killed for renouncing Islam
What did you expect from a barbarous medival phoney faith? The ONLY way islam can continue to be the dominant faith in Islamic society is to make it illegal to challenge it. As long as people fear being murdered by the barbaric imams they will not begin to think for themselves......see what happens when one guy actually does challenge the common belief structure? The failed faith responds with incarceration and possibly murder.......on behalf of a "god" so fearful of criticism that they will put a barber in prison for life.......

Muslims......if your so called god is so powerful or if your so called god is bothered by this kind of thing, why can't he/it/she punish the guy himself? Why does it need the laws of man to do his dirty work? Obviously one of two things apply...either your god isn't a god, but the product of a pedophiles imagination, or it doesn't care whether or not someone rants and insults him/it/her. Personally I think it is the former.......you have no god, just a bunch of rituals that don't mean squat.

This is a criticism of ALL beliefs about God . . . if it requires humans to enforce its dictates . . . it cannot be from God. God does not need humans to enforce His Will . . . only an IMPOTENT God or power hungry humans would need to do this.

When will this stupid comparison with the past be recognized for the waste of time and blame game that it is. What is relevant TODAY is what the status and actions are TODAY!!! Islam remains a barbaric deen TODAY and it must be opposed at every attempt to infiltrate its barbarity into civilized systems TODAY, period.

Its not a comparison but a road map. You're finding Islam guilty of what Christianity did 800 years ago. Or should we retroactively punish christianity for the barbaric things ther catholics did?

That is totally irrelevant to the situation we face TODAY! Did you even read my post . . . since you chopped off the relevant part?

Just the reverse. you've declared an entire religion as barbaric instead of just the few extremeists. Its their religion. Each sect gets to set up its own rules for its followers.

What would you call the Christian Reconstructionists?

The religion is barbaric and until it abandons it cultural barbarities, becomes civilized and enters the 21st century . . . they should be opposed and prevented from trying to incorporate their evil Sharia laws into the laws of civilized societies.
