My family and I went to a parade on the 4th of July. We sat in front of our church along with our Pastor and his family. Our Pastor would comment on the floats going by. "Nice Float." "Go 4-H!" "Good job band!" and would clap. The Republican float went by and he also commented "Go Republicans!"
Awhile later the Democat float went by and he commented "Boo, Democrats."
His 12 year old daughter said to her mother, "Mommy did you hear Daddy boo the Democrats?" her reply was to laugh and say "Yes, Daddy likes to voice his opinion!"
I'm not a strong Republican or Democrat, I'm not overly religious, I do like to watch and listen to ALL views, so I can learn and make decisions that are comfortable for me.
Why did my Pastors comments bother me and offend me? Should we be praying for our political leaders and not boo them? Expecially a Pastor, in public? I looked to him as the example and for guidance, I really liked him before this, now I'm disappointed in him. Should he have known better? Am I making a bigger deal out of his comments than I should?

The guy has a right to his own political opinions.

Although I do have to wonder what Bible he is reading in order to get excited by the Republicans. Yay, Mammon!

I think maybe he was just "voiceing" his support for his particular party. Alot of religious leaders support a particular party over the other, maybe bad examples for some, but Jerry Falwell did, Jesse Jackson, ...but maybe he was booing what that party at the moment stood for-idk. U are right, we should be praying for them to make wise decisions.

No I don't think you're making a big deal of it. Your pastor definately should of known better. Noone should ever put another group down because of differing beliefs especially someone who is an example to many. Christians should all strive to live Christ-like and I don't think Christ would put anyone down for their beliefs.

Pastors are people too.

Ok maybe it was in poor taste, but he is human. If he were at a football game and booing the opposing team would that have offended you as well? I think it's same.

In our City, the LOCAL Republicans are the ones that managed to destroy the old corrupt Democratic machine. It was something that many cheered about. Maybe it's the same thing in your town.

Pastors have just as much right to voice an opinion, especially at a fun time like a parade, as anyone else.

I just wanted to add that just because he was saying "boo" to the Democrats doesn't mean that he isn't praying for them too. It's probably more of a political statement of his own rather then a personal attack on individual persons who are democratic.

As someone who is far from Republican as can be, as long as he isn't voicing those views from the pulpit or out of the pulpit as a religious figure, then let him say his piece.

However, I'd be very upset to have someone lead me in worship who supports the acts of the Republican party, particularly this current administration.

Thank goodness my rabbi is a Democrat!

Jesus may not put one down, but you will be judged by your beliefs.

I believe he has the right to his opinion as long as it's not what he is teaching the church.
We all tell our children our points of view where do you think they come from!!!
