I think they are blessed by having the opportunity to accept Jesus. To the jew and then the gentile so to speak.
That's what I think that verse means. A nation being blessed, however, can certainly mean materially, financially, with good health, peace, favor with other countries, favor in war etc. I do think the United States has been blessed by God. Does that mean every person in the US has received Christ, obviously no. Would that it were so, but it's not.
You are absolutely correct, but I'm sure Jeff will disagree
No Dawn, I was speaking in terms of "happyness". I only briefly mentioned economics. SHEESH!
I WAS MERELY POINTING OUT THAT THERE ARE OTHER COUNTRIES BESIDES THE USA WHERE PEOPLE SEEM TO BE HAPPY.
I kept it short, sweet, and too the point, it amazes me that you couldn't get the point. I don't think your intellect is suspect, I just think your agenda clouds your perception of things.
Blessings for those people and nations which bless Abraham and the nation which comes from him, cursings upon those people land nations which curse Abraham and Israel, blessings upon all the families of the earth through Jesus who according to the flesh is Abraham's son and provides salvation from the entire world.
Well, like you guys frequently feel about my posts, I feel that this is painting the Word with a liberal brush in order to fit it into the "free will" box, but I digress, and no offense is meant.

Congrats ILNC, you were surprisingly right! I don't agree! But that's okay.
The Middle East is huge, and all the Jews are asking for is one very little sliver of land, and it's especially small when compared with the rest of the area. They can't even get THAT without a fight.
Tell the Palistinians whose grandfathers lost their land with no compensation, because of the Zionist agenda. There are reasons that most of the Islamic world is mad at us, they arn't just making up excuses. Our country has no business at all supporting Israel, many of the Israelies don't like our country.
That would be all well and good, except that this scripture is obviously referring to Jesus...or no??? If it is, then how is Jesus blessing all the families of the earth if He is not saving them? Did he bless their food, or their finances...and if THAT is the case, how is He blessing those who have not entered into a "covenant" with Him by getting saved?
I really can't get my arms around why this is so difficult for you to grasp. All the nations are blessed by Jesus. The rains fall on the just and the unjust. The entire planet, universe even, is blessed by Jesus. All the people on this board are blessed by Jesus. But that's doesn't mean they are all saved, unless you bend and stretch.

I think we need to support Israel for just the reason ILNC mentioned earlier.
It's not a political thing. It's a spiritual thing.
Are you saying that the Palistinians stole Israel?
They've been there for a thousand years, and traditionally had a lot of toleration for Jews and Christians.
Of course not, but I'm saying that, originally, this was Israel's stomping ground. And seriously, have you every looked at the middle east in that light? All of the Arab countries vs. Israel? They are really asking for very little...just their original home, which is miniscule in comparison to the rest of the region. Of course it's hard for the Palestinians, but maybe they could move in with one of their "cousins", since said "cousins" have so much more room than little ol' Israel does?

So how is everyone, the entire planet and universe even, blessed by Jesus exactly? This amounts to very little really if their eternal destination is being tortured in hell. What blessings do they have then?
How is a person starving and dying in Ethiopa blessed by Jesus, when they more than likely will die without any knowledge of Him?

Is the gospel not being preached in Ethiopia? At least at some level?
