It's the traditional midwinter festival that predates the Christian usurpers.

Ah, here we are in the annual debate over "Merry Christmas" vs. "Happy Holidays" once again. It seems trivial to me. I am an atheist, but "Merry Christmas" does not raise my blood pressure. It is a friendly sentiment.

Neither 'Merry Christmas' nor 'Happy Holidays' bothers me in the least. However, every year I get to listen to the rants of a coworker who loudly informs everyone that if he ever receives a 'Happy Holidays' he'll fire back with a firm 'Merry Christmas!'. I think he's very disappointed that no one actually ever says 'Happy Holidays' to him. He seems to need a sort of validation that he's being 'oppressed' by receiving a well-intentioned greeting that doesn't explicitly acknowledge his religion.

I also expect the usual annual influx of well-forwarded 'War on Christmas!' e-mail chains to begin soon. You know, the usual claims that retailers that don't prominently plaster MERRY CHRISTMAS across their December advertisements are trying to stamp out Christianity, or the usual regurgitated (and always false) claims that the White House has renamed the annual 'Christmas Tree' to 'Holiday Tree'.

'Tis the season to feign oppression...

Ir's either "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Christian Holidays". I am unaware of any other coming holidays other than the "Christian Holidays".

The "Holidays", or, if you prefer, the "Jewish Holidays", began on the evening prior to September 29 and ended at sunset on October 21, on the civil calendar.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays........What is the meaning of Christmas....
The true meaning of Christmas has become politically incorrect, and is being buried under all kinds of secular garbage. Even the phrase "Merry Christmas" is being replaced with "Happy Holidays."

I view Christmas purely as a commercialised event, it basically begins in early november and ends on christmas eve lol...the day itself is almost insignificant compared to the lead up to it, you even see it in Christmas movies how many of them actually focus on the day itself?

It's almost as if the true meaning of Christmas has become a secret.

Christmas was started because of jesus' birth. If it were not for him christmas would probably not exist its called christ-mas for a reason. Jesus is the reason for the season. Yes there are other holidays that occur around at the same time but christmas is celebrated by the majority of people in america the other holidays are celebrated by the minority. You dont have to pay any mind to any christmas ad or song its your choice to perceive things the way you want. Alot of non christians and or non catholics celebrate christmas, those who arent even religious at all might celebrate christmas. We are run by a government where we can practice whatever religion we want and express the freedom of speech and exercise our persuit for happiness.

Merry christmas to all.
