i'll say it again... Saint Joseph's Hospital did the right thang!
nobody wants to lose any life! but sometimes choices have to be made.
many kudos to all of the healthcare staff involved on the case especially the nun/sister/pit bull who stood her ground and as a result lost her positioning within the Catholic world.... KTAR.com - Ariz. hospital loses Catholic status over surgery
no more mass at St. Joseph, it's a steep price to pay but i bet they'll manage.
Interesting story. Like I say, where Faith and science comes into conflict, Faith must give way. Keep us posted on the follow -ups, if any.
i expect some form/types of re-instatements but re-instatements and especially in this case would require amendments. amendments require acknowledgement... i've got the faith this issue will not be a a stale mate for long; it can't be or else the rest of the U.S. Catholic Hospital system is a sitting duck for this to replay.
St. Joseph's does not receive direct funding from the church, but in addition to losing its Catholic endorsement, the 697-bed hospital will no longer be able to celebrate Mass and must remove the Blessed Sacrament from its chapel.
Oh, what power the Catholic Church wields. If people could just realize they don't need some stinking traditions in order to be in God's grace.
It's a shame that, in this day and age, the Catholic Church stills remains steadfast to the idea that a parasitic fetus is more important than saving the life of a woman (who may already be a mother and her children need her to live).
No where did I read (unless I missed it) what the intentions or desires of the customer (the "patient" in the medical world) were. Was she on board with this? Did she approve it? If so, this is an irrelevant slam dunk story.

i'm betting she/patient wanted to live or else this would have been a non-issue as it has been in the past.

This is just a stunt by the catholic church that it abides by its principles

So you think it is better for a mother of 4 to die, rather than the unborn fetus who had no choice of living?

The original poster is commending the hospitcal's decision to let the mother live.
